Chinese Times (大漢公報)

The search engine of Chinese Times 〈大漢公報〉has greatly been improved and has become more user friendly.  Before, the search engine did not accept search by date.  Even the search for individuals or companies was quite difficult.  Lately I have been browsing the Chinese Times for reports on the potato war, I was able to locate the issue of February 16, 1937 by entering the date in the search field.

Not only could I searh by date,  I could also search individuals and companies, and the search results were retrived quite efficiently. In my work on the historical Chinese language materials, I have come across of names of Chinese general stores written in Chinese characters.  Rather than simply phonetically translate the names of these stores, I prefer to find their local English names. So, I search for their advertisements in Chinese Times.  The search was used to be frustrating as I was often returned with the “no matching results” message.  But yesterday when I tried it again with the name of 乾豐 (qianfeng in Mandarin), a number of results poped up.  After going through three of them, I was able to locate exactly what I want!
