Cedar and Bamboo – A Lunar New Year Special at VPL (Feb 8)

This Year of the Horse special event highlights culture sharing between the Chinese and the Aboriginal people. Join Vancouver Public Library for:

  • Documentary film screenings:

– Cedar and Bamboo a film that explores the rich cross-cultural relations between Chinese and Aboriginal people in BC, directed by Diana Leung and Kamala Todd.

– Gold Mountain River: Exploring History on the Fraser an expedition film sponsored by the Chinese Canadian Historical Society, by Henry Yu and Alejandro Yoshizawa.


Panel discussion by the directors following the films.

  • Book launch:

The new children’s book Let’s Take a Walk! by Larry Grant and Sarah Ling, who will give an multilingual author reading of this charming book with audio CD includes the Musqueam language, Cantonese, Mandarin and English recordings.


  • Displays of Chinese history in British Columbia.
  • A cheerful, traditional Chinese Dragon Dancing.
